Department Introduction

Welcome to the vibrant and intellectually stimulating English Department at Annai Hajira Women’s College, where we celebrate the richness of language, literature, and critical thinking. As a pivotal part of the College of Arts and Sciences, our department is committed to fostering a deep appreciation for the English language, literature, and its multifaceted applications in the contemporary world.

The department has functioned as a Language department from the college's inception and it was modified as Language and Literature department in the year 2010. Every year the department has been producing University Ranks both in Major and in Part II English. It is a credit to the department to achieve the University's First Rank (Gold medal) in Major in the first batch itself (2013) and also in Part II English in 2016 (Gold medal).

We sail through the rich History of English Literature, British Literature, Canadian Literature, Caribbean Literature, Australian Literature, South Asian Literature, Regional Literature in Translation, Journalism and Mass Communication, and Writing for the Media. These literatures inspire the faculty and the students to express their ideas effectively not only in writing but also in verbal communication.

We believe in the value of experiential learning and offer various opportunities for students to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom. Internships, publications, literary events, and participation in club activities enable students to gain practical experience and connect with the broader literary community.
